SHORT DESCRIPTION

Hydrogeological study in the area of the Lamia Industrial Zone, for the determination of the causes of aquifers qualitative degradation. The study included mapping, testing, water points inventory and piezometry, hydrogeological evaluation, water balance computations, as well as the design and execution of a research drilling and pumping programme.
In addition, computation of quantitative and qualitative balances of the basin were conducted, and calculations of the recoverable amount of groundwater from the aquifers, without adverse effects on quality. Further on, the relationship of surface and groundwater flows were examined, and the assessment of existing and potential pollution sources. Finally the necessary measures to address the quality problem were proposed.
